In many ways, some more direct than others, COVID-19 has impacted the manner in which therapy occurs. However, the foundation of clinical care and the integrity with which Psychotherapy occurs should never waiver.
 
This training details proactive ways in which clinicians can implement trauma informed strategies to ensure a mindful, compassionate way they remain in tune with their client's complex needs, despite all changes amidst these inconsistent times. This training will not only discuss some of the unintentional pitfalls that well meaning, kindhearted clinicians fall in, but the situations that are beyond therapists' control, and how to navigate accordingly to ensure, as much as possible, a trauma sensitive environment, for all involved.  
 
Additionally, throughout this training, there will be real life examples, vignettes, and other situational excerpts from the presenter, as she details her own experiences in the therapeutic process, both personally and professionally.  While precautions will be taken to ensure privacy and confidentiality, this inside look allows the audience a chance to view the experience from "both sides."
 
*Special focus will be taken throughout the training to ensure safety for all in attendance due to delicate topics addressed, and ensure necessary supports/referrals provided as needed. This training is directed for professionals in the mental health field.
 
 Objectives:

1. Enhance rapport a) rapidly, b) ongoing c) in times of counter transference, with clients that struggle with trauma histories of complex and systemic origin, who view the world differently than you, the clinician, socially, politically, ethically, systemically, culturally, and otherwise.  
2.  Enhance ways to effectively manage ambiguous loss/grief with clients when the world is processing "traditional" grief and balance the limitations of this struggle with clinical indicators of PTSD criteria. 
3.  Recognize when one's own limitations as a clinician are ineffective in one area, but can be highly effective in another. Additionally, highlight the importance of empowerment when working with trauma survivors, and why this is crucial to breaking the cycle of re- traumatization. Recognize dependency both in and out of the therapeutic relationship, as well as the differences between dependency and healthy therapeutic bond/attachment.
